While managing three ongoing design projects, the founder of the company wanted to launch a cryptocurrency business news site in less than 3 months. The three-year plan was to evolve from a news source, to a provider of business information and startup prospecting services for Asian crypto startups. Worked with a remote content and marketing team, and managed the in-house creative and front-end team. The logo was prepared by the company Art Director, and I split the UX design task with another designer (who I assigned to implement the UI design). I peformed the QA of the site.

MVP of site launched on time. After approximately two full years of operation, this project was shelved.

Discovery

At the time, many cryptocurrecy news sites were following visual trends that were full of isometric designs, dark themed and very techie. With our three-year roadmap in mind to become a professional business site and to create product differentiation I created a visual brand that felt professional, similar to other reputable online business publications.

To ensure that development could be completed within the allotted deadline, I created a template which would be reused in other sections as much as possible. Other than the Home screen and select screens, all Category index page and Article pages utilize the same layout template, with just a unique header tag.

Challenge

Design reusable template.
Work with front-end team (2 members) to develop a customized WordPress site that can host articles, event registration, reports, that can be handed-off to content and marketing team.
Design and develop in 2.5 months, with 2 weeks of UAT and writing guides on how to use developed application with only 2 designers (myself included, while managing 3 other projects).
